Sheffield-born goaltender Alex Oldale signs with the Steelers/Steeldogs on a two-way contract, returning home after two seasons with the Manchester Storm.
The 20-year-old netminder made nine appearances for Manchester in the 2023–24 EIHL season, posting an impressive .918 save percentage and recording his first professional shutout. He also represented Great Britain at the U20 level, turning in a perfect 1.000 save percentage during his appearance at the 2024 World Junior Championships (Division 2A).
Oldale is a product of the Sheffield junior system, rising through the ranks with the Stormers, Steelhawks, and Scimitars. In 2021–22, he posted a standout .925 save percentage with the Steelhawks U18 squad and began gaining senior experience in the NIHL.
Now standing at 6′4″ and continuing to mature physically and technically, Oldale is widely regarded as one of the most promising young British goaltenders.
Steelers Head Coach Aaron Fox said:
“Alex is a local guy we’ve tracked for a while and we’re excited to bring him into the fold. He’s already shown at the pro level that he can handle tough minutes, and he has all the physical tools. With the right support and structure, we believe he has a bright future—and being part of our setup will only accelerate that.”
