STEELDOGS COME UP JUST SHORT IN THE YORKSHIRE DERBY

The TriggerHub Sheffield Steeldogs fell just short to the Leeds Knights tonight in a 3-2 defeat.

Period one began with both teams matching stride for stride. Leeds were the team to draw first blood in the game with Balint Pakozdi opening the scoring at 2:53 with Kieran Brown and Matt Bissonnette getting the assists. The game opened up for both teams. Steeldogs would be next to hit back with a goal from Joonas Larinmaa who went top shelf on Sam Gospel to tie the game at 1-1 assisted by Bair Gendunov and Jacob Brammer. Period one finished tied at 1-1

The Steeldogs knew Leeds would come out with a lot more fight and determination and that’s exactly what they did. The Steeldogs had a poor second period with Leeds adding two goals. Goal number two for the Knights came from Liam Peyton at 30:02 assisted by Kieran Brown. Which was followed up by a third goal for the Knights with Kieran Brown getting himself a goal at 35:59. Leeds ended the second period leading 3-1.

Steeldogs knew they needed a much better third and final period. At 42:45 the gloves came off with Tim Smith and Innes Gallacher both going head-to-head with each other. Gallacher got a two minute Instigation penalty as well as a 5+game for fighting. Smith got just a 5 minute penalty for fighting. Time was running out on the two minute Instigation penalty but there was enough time for Bair Gendunov to get the game back within in one scoring on the powerplay, assists coming from CJ Garcia and Walker Sommer.

It just wasn’t to be for the Steeldogs in the end with the visitors seeing the game out at 3-2.

Man of the Match for the Steeldogs went to Tim Smith and for the Leeds Knights it went to Sam Gospel who made a whopping 49 saves from 51 shots.
