OVERTIME WIN IN PETERBOROUGH – FINAL SCORE PHANTOMS 2-3 STEELDOGS

This was a massive game between both the Steeldogs and Phantoms. Steeldogs knew they had to go into Peterborough and get the win. Whereas for Peterborough they needed just 1 point to qualify for the cup semi-final.

Period one began with the Steeldogs seeing more of the puck especially in the early stages of the match. Jonathan Phillips opened the game up with a tip infront of net from a shot by Walker Sommer at the point. We went into the first intermission leading 1-0.

Period two began in a similar way. But both teams started to match eachother evening the game. The Steeldogs made it 2-0 this time through Kyle Watson who took this goal beautifully from a backhand shot which went high on Lavigne. Steeldogs led 2-0 after 40 minutes.

A big period of hockey was coming for the Steeldogs with a lot of pressure on their players’ shoulders to get the game sealed. Unfortunately Peterborough managed to get a goal to get the game back within one. Phantoms spirits were high. Janne Laakkonen got the Phantoms’ second goal of the game which tied the game up sending it to overtime.

Steeldogs were the more dominant team in the 3:16 played. Walker Sommer with a wrap-a-round attempt got the puck past Lavigne sending the Steeldogs home with a 3-2 win, cup semi-final qualification and two vital league points!

Brady Parker was given the Man of the Match honours after making some outstanding saves throughout the game.
