Walker Sommer Returns For Third Season With The Steeldogs

The Sheffield Steeldogs are delighted to confirm that Walker Sommer will return to the club for the 2026/27 season.

Sommer enters his third season in orange after establishing himself as a key member of the Steeldogs roster, earning the respect of teammates and supporters alike through his consistency, professionalism and relentless work ethic.

A popular figure with the fanbase, Sommer has become synonymous with the values the club wants to represent on and off the ice; commitment, competitiveness and pride in the badge.

His return provides another important piece of continuity for the Steeldogs as preparations continue for the new campaign.

General Manager Jamie McIlroy said: “We’re delighted to welcome Walker Sommer back to the Sheffield Steeldogs for what will be his third season with the club. Continuity is incredibly important when you’re trying to build something sustainable, and bringing back players who understand our culture, standards, and expectations is a major part of that process. Walker has become a valued member of this organisation, and we’re very pleased to have him returning.

From a hockey perspective, Walker gives us real quality and reliability. He understands the way we want to play, and he knows what it takes to compete in this league. Having players who already know the environment means we can hit the ground running, and that familiarity can be a huge advantage as we prepare for the season ahead.

Just as importantly, Walker wanted to be back here, and that says a lot about what we are building as a club. We want players who are invested in our journey, who believe in the direction we are heading, and who want to be part of pushing this organisation forward. Walker fits that profile perfectly.

I’ve got no doubt he will continue to play a big role for us this season. He knows the expectations, he knows the opportunity in front of us, and I’m confident he will once again be a big contributor both on and off the ice. We’re thrilled to have him back, and I know our supporters will be just as pleased to see Walker return for another year.”

Sommer was equally pleased to extend his stay in Sheffield – “It means a lot to re-sign here in Sheffield. I’ve loved my time with the team and the fans, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to come back for a third year.

I’m focused on doing whatever I can to help the team succeed and win trophies. I love wearing orange.”

Everyone at the Sheffield Steeldogs looks forward to welcoming Walker back for the 2026/27 season.
