The Sheffield Steeldogs are delighted to confirm the return of Nathan Salem ahead of the upcoming season.
Salem re-joins the Steeldogs, returning to Sheffield for the first time since 2021 after spending last season in Peterborough, where he worked his way back to full fitness. Having previously iced for the club between 2018 and 2021, Salem is no stranger to Sheffield and will bring both familiarity and quality back into the group.
Widely regarded as one of the standout performers of the 2024/25 Playoff campaign, Salem was arguably Peterborough’s Most Valuable Player at Playoff Finals Weekend, underlining his ability to deliver on the biggest stage. His performances throughout that period demonstrated his offensive quality, composure under pressure, and his capability to influence key moments in high-stakes games.
A key factor in this signing is the existing relationship with Head Coach Slava Koulikov, who previously worked with Salem during their time in Peterborough. That familiarity provides a strong foundation, with a clear understanding of the player’s strengths and how he can be utilised effectively within the Steeldogs’ system.
Salem’s return is a significant addition to the roster, bringing experience, offensive threat, and a player who knows what it takes to perform in crucial moments. His previous spell with the club saw him become a popular figure with supporters, and his return will no doubt be warmly welcomed.

Speaking on the signing, General Manager Jamie McIlroy said:
“We’re really pleased to bring Nathan back to Sheffield. He’s a player we know well, and someone who has already shown what he’s capable of in a Steeldogs jersey.
Last season was obviously frustrating for him with the injury, but he’s put the hard work in to get himself back to full fitness, and we’re confident we’re bringing in a player who’s ready to make an impact again.
What stands out with Nathan is his ability to influence games, especially in big moments. His performance at the Playoff Finals Weekend for Peterborough speaks for itself, that’s when you need your best players to step up, and he’s shown he can do exactly that.
He also has that existing relationship with Slava from their time in Peterborough, which is a real positive. There’s a clear understanding there in terms of how he plays and what he brings, and that will help him settle in quickly and hit the ground running.
We believe he’ll add real quality to our line-up and give us another dimension offensively. Just as importantly, he knows this club, he knows the expectations, and he knows what it means to play here.
We’re excited to have him back, and I’m sure our fans will be looking forward to seeing Nathan in orange.”

Salem is equally excited to return to Sheffield and get back on the ice:
“I’m really excited to be coming back to Sheffield next season. The club has changed a lot since I was last there and has a lot of new faces. I’m looking forward to the new challenges and hopefully we can build on the team’s success from last season. It’s been a long time off for me, but I’m excited to get back out there and contribute to the team.”
We will be announcing further signings in the coming weeks, keep your eyes on our website and social media channels.
