The DSM Sheffield Steeldogs are delighted to confirm the return of forward Michael Danecko for the 2026/2027 NIHL National season.
Danecko returns for another campaign in orange. The fan favourite known for his relentless work rate, tenacity and determination, Danecko brings energy to the team and is a player who never stops competing.
Throughout the 2025/2026 season, Danecko established himself as a valuable member of the squad. His ability to pressure opponents, win puck battles, and create opportunities through hard work made him an important part of the Steeldogs’ forward group as the club enjoyed another successful campaign.
Now back for the 2026/2027 season, Danecko will once again add pace, determination and depth to the lineup as the Steeldogs continue to build a competitive roster.
Steeldogs General Manager Jamie McIlroy said:
“Mikey is another player who’s come through the Sheffield pathway, and we’re pleased to have him back with us for another season. Although he’s still only 22, he already has five years’ experience at this level, and we felt he made some really positive strides in his development last season.
He’s developed into a player who isn’t afraid to play a hard-nosed game, competes every shift, and brings qualities that are important to the identity we’re building as a team. We see him as a valuable part of our group, but we also believe there’s another level for him to reach.
This is an important season in Mikey’s development. Slava and I have challenged him to keep pushing his game forward, and now it’s about taking that next step with greater consistency. The opportunity is there for him, and we’re looking forward to seeing him grasp it with both hands.”
