Steeldogs fall to Leeds Knights on the road

Sheffield Steeldogs were beaten 4-1 by Leeds Knights at Planet Ice Leeds on Thursday evening, as the hosts took control of the contest with goals across all three periods.

The Steeldogs headed into the road fixture looking to put in a strong performance against their Yorkshire rivals, but Leeds made home advantage count to secure the victory in the National League encounter.

Leeds Take First-Period Lead

The opening period saw Leeds establish an early advantage, with Peyton Liam opening the scoring at 3:00. The early goal gave the Knights a platform to build on, while Sheffield were left chasing the game as they looked for a response.

Despite the setback, the Steeldogs remained in the contest and looked to find a way through the Leeds defence. The hosts, however, held on to their lead through the remainder of the first period, taking a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Knights Extend Their Advantage

Leeds doubled their lead at 23:38 through Matthew A. Bissonette, with Edgars Vengis and Cullen McLean providing the assists. The goal gave the home side some breathing room, but Sheffield continued to battle as they looked for a route back into the game.

The Steeldogs found their breakthrough at 30:43 when Dante Salituro got Sheffield on the scoresheet, assisted by Jonathan Phillips. The goal brought the visitors back within one and gave them renewed hope of mounting a comeback.

Sheffield had given themselves a foothold in the contest, and the score remained 2-1 heading into the third period, leaving the game finely poised for the final 20 minutes.

Leeds Pull Away in the Third

The Knights made a strong start to the final period, restoring their two-goal advantage at 41:39 through Owen Sobchak, assisted by Cullen McLean.

With Sheffield needing another goal to put pressure back on the hosts, Leeds struck again at 46:11. Balint A. Pakozdi scored the fourth goal, with Bissonette and McLean picking up the assists, putting the Knights firmly in control at 4-1.

The Steeldogs continued to work in search of another response, but they were unable to find a second goal before the final buzzer. Leeds saw out the remainder of the game to claim the points on home ice.
