The Sheffield Steeldogs are delighted to confirm that Alex Oldale has signed a new three-year agreement with the club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The talented young netminder commits his future to the Steeldogs in a move that underlines both the club’s confidence in his long-term potential and its continued commitment to developing homegrown talent within the organisation.
Oldale’s first season back in Sheffield was disrupted by two separate long-term injuries, limiting the opportunities for supporters to see the full extent of his ability. Despite those setbacks, his professionalism, resilience and determination to improve left a strong impression throughout the year.
The new agreement will see Oldale continue his development within the club’s two-way system, providing valuable opportunities to gain experience and learn from senior goaltenders across both teams.

General Manager Jamie McIlroy said:
“Alex was a player we were determined to keep in Sheffield. He’s a talented young goaltender with tremendous upside, and importantly, someone who wants to improve and be part of what we’re building here.
Last season was frustrating for him and for us, because two separate long-term injuries meant supporters never truly got the opportunity to see the best version of Alex, or the progress he was capable of making over a full year. Despite those setbacks, his attitude, professionalism, and commitment never wavered.
This agreement is a strong reflection of our belief in Alex and our commitment to developing talented local players within our pathway. Securing him for the next three years gives him the stability and opportunity to continue his progression and gives the club an exciting young netminder we believe has a very bright future ahead of him.
We’re confident that with a healthy run and the right environment around him, Alex can become a big player for this organisation over the coming years.”

Oldale was equally pleased to extend his stay with his hometown club.
“I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to re-sign in Sheffield. I believe the set-up of the two-way contract is hugely important for my development and gives me a great chance to continue learning from experienced goaltenders across both teams.
After dealing with setbacks during my first season here, I’m determined to work hard, improve every day, and give everything I have for the fans and the club in pursuit of winning trophies in my hometown.
I truly believe that over the next three years we have everything in place to make it a very exciting and successful period for hockey in Sheffield.”
Everyone at the Sheffield Steeldogs would like to congratulate Alex on his new deal and look forward to seeing him continue his progression in Steeldogs colours.
