MATCH REPORT – Capitals 2-5 Steeldogs

The Sheffield Steeldogs made the long journey from IceSheffield to Murrayfield Ice Rink and came away with an impressive 5–2 victory over the Edinburgh Capitals in the first of this weekend’s double-header.

The Dogs started strongly, with Andras Kehl opening the scoring early in the first period. Edinburgh quickly hit back through Joe Lynch, leaving the game tied at 1-1 after twenty minutes.

The Capitals struck first in the second period with a goal from Howie, but the Steeldogs responded in style. New signings Joonas Larinmaa and Bair Gendunov both found the net, marking their first goals for the club. Despite facing sustained pressure for much of the period, the Dogs carried a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

After regrouping with Lewis and Slava during the break, the Steeldogs came out flying in the third and delivered their best hockey of the night. Nathan Ripley extended the lead before Gendunov capped off his stellar debut with his second goal of the evening, sealing a 5-2 win for Sheffield.

A solid debut display from Bair Gendunov who was named Man of the Match.

A huge thank you goes out to the travelling fans who made the trip to the Scottish capital. We look forward to seeing you again tomorrow as the Dogs take on the Capitals in the second game of the weekend series.
