The DSM Sheffield Steeldogs rounded off their 2026 pre-season with a 2-1 victory over local rivals Leeds Knights at IceSheffield.
The Steeldogs opened the scoring just 3:06 into the game as Fin Williams fired a wrist shot from the blue line which found its way past Leeds netminder Walker to give Williams his first goal in Steeldogs colours.
Sheffield carried their 1-0 lead into the second period and doubled their advantage 4:20 into the frame. Walker Sommer found the back of the net to make it 2-0 to the Steeldogs.
Leeds responded on the power play, with Owen Sobchak getting the Knights on the scoresheet and reducing the deficit to one.
The game remained closely contested throughout, with both sides enjoying similar spells of possession and chances. However, the Steeldogs stood firm defensively to preserve their 2-1 advantage and secure victory in their final pre-season outing.
Shane Owen was awarded Man of the Match following an excellent performance between the pipes.
The result brings the Steeldogs’ 2026 pre-season to a close, with attention now turning towards the competitive season.
