Olly Knaggs Returns Under Existing Two-Year Agreement

The Sheffield Steeldogs are pleased to confirm that Oliver Knaggs will return to the club for the 2026/27 NIHL National season as he enters the second year of his two-year agreement with the organisation.

Knaggs became an integral part of the Steeldogs lineup during his first season in Sheffield, establishing himself as one of the team’s most versatile and dependable players across the course of the campaign. Despite being just 20 years old, the left-shot skater earned the trust of the coaching staff through his consistency, adaptability and willingness to fill whatever role was required for the benefit of the team.

While naturally a defenceman, Knaggs regularly transitioned between the blue line and the forward group throughout the season as injuries and roster challenges arose. His ability to comfortably operate in multiple positions provided the Steeldogs with valuable flexibility during key periods of the year and further highlighted his hockey intelligence and team-first approach.

Across 64 competitive appearances in League, Cup and Playoff competition during the 2025/26 season, Knaggs continued to show steady progression within his game while taking on important responsibilities in a variety of situations.

His skating ability and composure with the puck made him a highly trusted option throughout the lineup. Regardless of where he was deployed, Knaggs consistently brought energy, reliability and discipline to the group each week.

Steeldogs General Manager Jamie McIlroy said:

“Olly gave us enormous value last season because of the flexibility he brought to the roster. Players who can genuinely play multiple positions effectively are difficult to find, particularly at his age, and he handled every challenge we put in front of him extremely well.

What impressed me most was the maturity in his game. He understood what the team needed on any given night and adapted accordingly without hesitation. That attitude is massively important within a successful dressing room.

He became a player that we could rely on in a variety of different situations throughout the season, and his consistency quietly made him a hugely important part of our group. We’re delighted to have him back with us for another year.”

The Sheffield Steeldogs would like to welcome Olly back to the organisation and look forward to seeing him continue in orange throughout the 2026/27 season.
