British-Canadian defenceman Liam Steele joins the Steeldogs ahead of the 2025–26 season, adding size, skill, and a winning pedigree to the Sheffield blue line.
Born in Cobham and developed through the Guildford junior system, Steele quickly made his mark in the UK before moving to Stanstead College in Canada—serving as captain of their varsity program and earning international caps for Great Britain at both U18 and U20 level. In 2022–23, he stepped into the BCHL with the Chilliwack Chiefs and Salmon Arm Silverbacks, where he recorded 14 points in 33 regular-season games and added four more in the playoffs.
At 6′4″ and 225 lbs, Steele brings a commanding presence at the back end, along with strong skating and puck-moving ability. His physical style, leadership qualities, and international experience make him one of the most promising young British defencemen of his generation.
A 2022–23 GB U20 standout and NCAA (ECAC) Champion, Steele is poised to be a major contributor as he transitions to senior hockey in the UK.
Head Coach Slava Koulikov said:
“Liam is an excellent addition for us—he’s a big, mobile defenceman who’s been tested at a high level in North America and internationally. He plays the right way, brings maturity beyond his years, and fits perfectly into what we’re building here.”
