Steeldogs made the relatively short trip to Telford without netminders Crowe and Norton. Hayden Oates backed up Warburton, who was looking to continue his recent good performances between the pipes.
Sam Cooper and Ivan Bjorkly Nordstrom were out injured.
A shuffe of the D saw Barry partnering Kirk, Morgan with Smith and Turner paired with Adams.
An excellent turnout out by the travelling fans, who were right behind the team from the 1st puck drop, amidst a cagey opening.
Tigers took the lead at 4.09 but the Dogs fought back strongly, and the leagues leading scorer, Walker Sommer, nonchalantly tapped home at 6.57,after being teed up by linemate Jonathan Phillips. A great passing move as they broke from defence, Smith with the 2nd assist.
However, as the period looked to be ending all square, telford took the lead, with the all import, forward line, deservedly notching up their 2nd goal.
They really worked well as a unit and were causing the dogs some real problems.
Telford were out of the blocks straight from the start of the middle session and goals 3 and 4 came with less than two and a half minutes gone.
They were on a roll and the dogs were looking tired and heavy legged but managed to hang on in there and got a goal back in the 29th minute, Ripley assisted Sommer and Morgan.
Further pressure resulted in a Phillips PPG, set up by Ulrick and Kirk at 35.24.
4 – 3 and game on.
Well, until Clarke pizzo took a tripping penalty 4 seconds later, which took the home team all of 36 seconds to take a 5-3 lead.
Less than a minute later, Barry narrowed the deficit , helpers to Hallfors and Kirk.
A late powerplay for the dogs kept the pressure in Tigers’ zone, but the period ended 5-4.
Elmeri Hallfors remarkably levelled the scores 94 seconds into the last period, Doxey with the assist.
Could this be the catalyst to help take the points back to South Yorkshire?
Unfortunately not, as 2 powerplay goals at 43.26 and 49.14 gave the home team breathing space…Penalties called were a bench minor for too many men and a tripping call on Kirk.
An 8th Tigers goal at 50.59 ended the scoring and despite pressure by the away team, as Warburton was pulled for the extra skater late on, Brad Day and his defence held on to secure the win.
A disappointing outcome to a topsy turvy game, with 3 powerplay goals scored against the dogs, each within the first 46 seconds of the man advantage.
Henry Adams was the away team Man of the Match, with notable performances from Hallfors , the returning Phillips and Warburton.
Special mention to all the fans who travelled down, almost 40 of them 👏
