STEELDOGS FALL SHORT IN HULL

Sheffield Steeldogs were unable to overturn an early deficit as Hull Seahawks claimed a 3–1 victory, sealing the result with a late empty-net goal in a tightly contested affair.

The visitors struck first midway through the opening period when Owen Bruton opened the scoring at 6:27, finishing a Hull counterattack to give the Seahawks an early lead. Sheffield pushed back but were unable to find a breakthrough before Hull doubled their advantage on the power play. At 12:35, Bobby Chamberlain converted with the man advantage, assisted by Owen Sobchak and Brock Bartholomew, sending Hull into the first intermission with a 2–0 lead.

The second period proved to be a physical and penalty-filled stanza, with Hull conceding multiple infractions as the Steeldogs pressed for a way back into the game. Sheffield were eventually rewarded late in the period when Bair Gendunov fired home a power-play goal at 38:46, assisted by Liam Steele, cutting the deficit to one heading into the final break.

The third period saw Sheffield apply sustained pressure in search of an equaliser, while Hull defended resolutely and looked to strike on the counter. As the clock wound down, the Steeldogs elected to pull the netminder for the extra skater, but Hull capitalised in the closing minute. Jamie Chilcot scored into the empty net at 59:07, with Owen Sobchak picking up his second assist of the night, to secure the win for the Seahawks.

Despite a strong special teams effort and a determined final period, Sheffield were unable to force the game beyond regulation.
