Steeldogs hit 7 in Solway

Solway Sharks 6 – 7 Sheffield Steeldogs

The Steeldogs are on the road this weekend, first stop for the team bus – Dumfries Ice Bowl.

The Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs got off to a great start as Matt Bissonnette opened the scoring with Brady Doxey adding to the total. The Steeldogs looked good for their goals and put together a very good opening 20 minutes that was capped off with a Vlads Vulkanovs goal. 0-3

After the first period which really was a show of intent from the Dogs, the second had plenty of entertainment to offer the crowd. The Sharks got on the board through Kieran Hair, but Vulkanovs restored a three-goal lead. James Spurr fired a rocket past Warburton and made it 1-5 to the Dogs who looked comfortable at this point.

With the game looking like it was heading Sheffield’s way, Doxey increased the lead to 1-6 with his second of the game and Hewitt sent the Dogs to seventh heaven. But Solway were not beaten yet, and with Jack Brammer ejected, John Dunbar closed the gap and Lewis Houston inched the Sharks closer on the 5 minute advantage. Mason Alderson and Nolan Gardiner added goals to make it 5-7 and a provide a very exciting final few minutes for the packed Ice Bowl. Dunbar led the charge in the final moments and added the sixth goal with the netminder pulled. The Dogs shut up shop with seconds remaining and ensured the 2 points were travelling back to South Yorkshire.
