Steeldogs Land Huge Signing with Experienced Defenceman Davey Phillips

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the signing of Davey Phillips for the 2025/26 season!

Davey makes the move from our rivals, the Hull Seahawks, and despite being limited by injury last season, he’s more than ready to hit the ice in orange alongside his new Steeldogs teammates.

With his experience, leadership, and determination, Davey is set to be a huge asset for us this year and we can’t wait to see him in action!

Just a couple of weeks ago, Davey was icing for the Belfast Giants in the Champions Hockey League. A familiar face in British ice hockey, Davey has represented Team GB in 114 games, earning an incredible 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal along the way.

With an impressive 783 Elite League games under his belt, Davey adds a wealth of experience and depth to the Steeldogs roster. We’re thrilled to have him onboard and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make this season!

Head coach Slava Koulikov: “We are absolutely delighted to have captured a player of Dave’s calibre for our team. His vast experience, both from many successful years in the Elite League and representing Great Britain internationally, speaks for itself.

Dave is a proven leader and will be invaluable both on and off the ice. His dedication, professionalism, and reputation as a great teammate make him the type of player every coach wants in the dressing room.

On the ice, Dave’s understanding of the game and high hockey IQ set him apart. He brings a level of calmness, reliability, and importance to our lineup that cannot be overstated. With or without the puck, his ability to control play and make the right decisions makes him a true difference-maker.

We’re thrilled to have him with us and I know he’ll play a huge role in helping drive our club forward this season.”
