The Sheffield Steeldogs are pleased to confirm the signing of Maks Maslak on a three-year agreement ahead of the upcoming season.
Maslak arrives in Sheffield following his development within the Slovakian U20 system with HK Michalovce, where he continued to build on a strong foundation established during his earlier years in the UK. The young forward is widely regarded as one of the more promising British prospects in his age group, combining offensive upside with a clear commitment to his development.
During his time in Slovakia’s U20 league, Maslak recorded 22 goals and 16 assists across 81 games: a solid return within a competitive European development environment. Prior to that, he demonstrated his scoring ability within the UK junior system, posting 35 points in 27 games at U18 level. That progression highlights a player who has consistently taken steps forward in increasingly demanding leagues.
Maslak has also gained valuable international experience, representing Great Britain Men’s National Ice Hockey Team at junior level; further underlining his status as a player with significant long-term potential.
This signing reflects the Steeldogs’ continued commitment to identifying and developing emerging British talent, with a clear focus on building a sustainable and competitive roster for the future.

Speaking on the signing, General Manager Jamie McIlroy said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to bring Maks into the Sheffield organisation on a three-year deal. He’s exactly the type of player we’re focused on identifying; someone with real upside, a strong development track, and the drive to push his game forward in a professional environment. Maks is a player we’ve been tracking closely since I took on this role, and one who was identified early as having the potential to develop into a top-level talent.
When you break down his pathway, there are a lot of indicators that point towards a player with a very high ceiling. He’s shown he can produce offensively, but more importantly, he’s done that while stepping into a tougher, more competitive league overseas. That tells you a lot about his character, his adaptability, and his willingness to challenge himself, which are traits we place huge value on.
Beyond the raw numbers, what stands out is his development curve. Moving into a more demanding league environment at a young age and continuing to produce is a strong indicator of adaptability and long-term potential. That progression aligns with the type of player we want to bring into this organisation, individuals who are not only talented, but who are committed to improving and testing themselves.
His time abroad in Finland and Slovakia has clearly accelerated his development. You can see it in the way his game has matured; not just in terms of output, but in his overall understanding, his decision-making, and his ability to impact games in different ways. When you combine that with his earlier production in the UK system, it builds a really strong profile of a player who is trending in the right direction.
Add to that his experience representing Great Britain Men’s National Ice Hockey Team at junior level, and you’re looking at someone who has already been exposed to high-performance environments and knows what it takes to compete at that level.
From our perspective, securing Maks on a three-year agreement is a real statement. It shows the direction we’re going in, as a club; we’re not just thinking about the short term, we’re investing in players who can grow with us and be part of something over a longer period of time.
We genuinely believe that Sheffield is the right place for him to take that next step. With the structure, coaching, and standards we have in place at the Steeldogs, he’s coming into an environment where he can develop, be challenged, and reach his full potential.
We’re really excited about what he can bring to the group, both now and in the future. He’s a player our fans can get behind, and I’ve got no doubt they’ll enjoy watching his journey unfold in a Steeldogs jersey.”

Maslak himself is eager to begin the next chapter of his career in Sheffield:
“I am really excited to be in Sheffield and join the Steeldogs organization. I think it’s a good time to step up to the senior level after three years abroad, and given the Steeldogs program and recent success, I believe this is a great place and opportunity for me to continue my development. I can’t wait to get to work, meet the team, and play in front of the fans.”
Further updates on the Steeldogs’ roster ahead of the new season will be announced shortly.
