STEELDOGS VICTORIOUS IN A 15-GOAL THRILLER AGAINST THE RAIDERS

Steeldogs come away with two crucial League & Cup points in a 15-goal thriller against the Romford Raiders!

The TriggerHub Sheffield Steeldogs welcomed the Romford Raiders to IceSheffield for the first time this season. The teams have met once already so far in Romford where the Steeldogs won 4-3 in overtime.

The Steeldogs got out the blocks early with Walker Sommer scoring the first goal of the game at 6:44 which was setup by Jonathan Phillips from a faceoff in the offensive zone. Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom was also given an assist on the play. It was just a one goal first period.

Romford came at the Steeldogs quickly in the second period. Just 53 seconds into period two Romford tied the game through Tjay Anderson. The Steeldogs later answered back with Walker Sommer getting his second of the night. With two identical assist to the first Steeldogs goal with Jonathan Phillips and Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom getting the assists. A few minutes later the Steeldogs scored a third goal. Who else would it be other than Walker Sommer who scored his third goal of the game to seal a hattrick! Liam Steele was awarded the only assist. That didn’t stop the Raiders from getting the game back within one with Jake Sylvester scoring at 34:54 to make it 3-2 after forty minutes of ice hockey.

The third period was full of action! At 41:10 the Steeldogs got a fourth goal with Kyle Watson sniping the puck past Ceci. Bair Gendunov and Joonas Larinmaa were awarded the assists. Romford soon answered back once again with Michael Power getting the Raiders third of the night. A small matter of minutes later Steeldogs got a fifth this time through Bair Gendunov assisted by CJ Garcia and Joonas Larinmaa. Just ten seconds later Jake Sylvester sniped the puck past Oldale for his second goal of the game at 48:16. Another couple of minutes went by before the Steeldogs got their sixth of the night, this time on the powerplay with Liam Steele finding the back of the net at 50:31. Both Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom & Jonathan Phillips were awarded the assists. The Steeldogs were flying. Another ten seconds went by when the Steeldogs added an seventh at 50:41! Walker Sommer scored his fouth goal of the night with a beautiful setup from Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom. Less than two minutes went by before Joonas Larinmaa scored the Steeldogs’ eighth of the night with Kyle Watson and Bair Gendunov getting themselves an assist. Romford opted for a netminder change with Owen Rider coming in to replace Cole Ceci. Less than fourty seconds and Romford got themselves a fifth with Jake Sylvester getting his hattrick. A small bit of hope was restored for the Raiders as they went and scored a sixth at 57:16 through Shaun Miller. Just over 30 seconds went by when Michael Danecko scored his first goal of the season at 57:48 assisted by Nathan Ripley!

Final score: Sheffield Steeldogs 9-6 Romford Raiders

Man of the Match for the Steeldogs was only going to go to one guy and that was Walker Sommer scoring four goals! Tjay Anderson received the honours for the Raiders.
