Third-Period Swing Sees Tigers Take the Points

The Steeldogs were beaten on home ice in a game that swung firmly in Telford’s favour as it progressed.

Telford took an early penalty just 31 seconds in when Patrick Brown was called for cross checking. Sheffield were later penalised at 3:52, with Bailey Yates sent off for slashing, but it was the Steeldogs who struck first at 9:53. Bair Gendunov opened the scoring, finishing from Walker Sommer and CJ Garcia to give the home side the advantage.

Telford responded before the first intermission. At 19:43, David Thomson levelled the game, assisted by Finley Howells and Eric Henderson, sending the teams into the break tied.

The Steeldogs regained the lead at 23:21 in the second period when Walker Sommer found the net, supported by Kyle Watson and Liam Steele. However, the momentum began to shift amid a series of penalties. At 25:24, coincidental delay of game minors were assessed to Michael Danečko and Brynley Capps.

The turning point came at 35:43 when David Phillips received multiple penalties for interference, unsportsmanlike conduct and abuse of officials leaving Sheffield short-handed and disrupting their rhythm heading into the third period.

Telford capitalised in the final frame. Tyler Somerton equalised at 45:47, assisted by Taylor Stanton and Rhodes Mitchell-King. Just under two minutes later, at 47:42, Nick Oliver gave the Tigers the lead from Henderson and Finley Howells.

The Steeldogs took a timeout following the goal in an attempt to regroup, but further setbacks followed. CJ Garcia was penalised for roughing at 54:18, and although Brynley Capps was later called for tripping at 57:23, Sheffield were unable to convert.

Pushing forward in the closing stages, the Steeldogs were caught out, and Thomson sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 59:59, assisted by Henderson and Mitchell-King.
