Tim Smith is a stalwart presence on the blue line for the Sheffield Steeldogs, known for his experience, leadership and deep connection to the club. A Sheffield native, Tim has come to embody much of what the Steeldogs stand for.

Smith’s roots in the city and the sport run deep. Over the course of many seasons with the club, he has become a familiar and trusted figure in the locker room and on the ice. In 2025, the Steeldogs welcomed him back for what would be his 13th season with the club — a testament to his longevity and the value he brings. 

Throughout his tenure, Smith has accumulated well over 460 appearances in league and playoff matches for Sheffield.  Beyond the raw numbers, his contributions are often measured in intangible assets: composure, situational awareness, mentoring younger players, and a winning mentality. 

One of the high points of his time with the Steeldogs was being a member of the squad that claimed the Cup and play-off double in 2022.  That success is often cited within the club when discussing the pillars of its future — and Smith is frequently singled out as one of those pillars. 

In interviews, Smith has often spoken about his pride in wearing the Steeldogs jersey and his excitement at being part of the club’s ongoing journey under new coaching direction.  With Slava Koulikov coming in as head coach, Smith expressed eagerness to contribute his experience and leadership to help shape the team’s future.
