We Bring Another One Home as Kyle Watson Signs

We Keep Our Promise to Bring the Best Back to Sheffield … Kyle Watson is Next

The Sheffield Steeldogs are delighted to confirm the signing of Kyle Watson on a two-way deal with the Steelers. Watson joins us from Trine University where he has played NCAA III for the past 4 seasons.

Watson started his hockey life off in Sheffield playing 9 years in the junior programme at IceSheffield before heading to the States in 2016 to play two years of AAA junior hockey

After a further year away at Salisbury School (USHS-Prep) Kyle moved to Hampton Road Whalers in 2019 before heading to Trine University

Now it’s time to head back home to Sheffield, and he couldn’t be happier

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this 2-way process between the Steelers and the Steeldogs” said Kyle

“After speaking with Aaron and Jamie this opportunity just makes perfect sense for my progression and I’m thankful for it. It’s a really cool full circle moment for me being back after 9 years overseas and I couldn’t be more excited.

“A key element for me in deciding where to play is the ambition to develop, succeed & ultimately win, I have great memories of playing 11 years in the Sheffield Academy & that has always been the culture.

“I can’t wait to get to work with the organisation and for the season to start”

“We’re absolutely delighted to bring Kyle back to Sheffield. He’s a player we’ve been monitoring for some time and, with his early junior years spent in the Sheffield Academy, this really feels like a homecoming.

What makes this signing even more exciting is that Kyle joins us on a two-way agreement with the Steelers. He’s shown a relentless work ethic throughout the summer and is eager to prove himself, with the clear aim of becoming a regular at Elite League level. That drive and determination is exactly what we want in our roster.

Kyle is a natural playmaker who also has an eye for goal, and his development at Trine University’s NCAA III program has made him a smart, two-way forward who can contribute in all areas of the ice. For us, it’s about adding quality and depth to our roster, but also about continuing our commitment to having players with Sheffield in their DNA. Kyle knows what this club stands for, he knows the community, and I’ve no doubt he’ll quickly become a player our fans will love to support.”
