Sheffield 6-2 Hull

What a difference a day makes.

With Nordstrom stepping up to the Steelers, and several players stepping out of their sick beds to play this could have been another tough ask for the SteelDogs.

The game started with both teams swapping chances plus a few cross checks and the odd punch.
Sheffield took the lead after some great zonal play that paid dividends with Ripley smashing one in the back of the net.  Assists went to Sheffields veteran defensive men Smith and Morgan.

Hull continued with their  ill discipline resulting in a power play awarded to Sheffield. A deflection off Hull’s defence man Declan Balmer resulted in Sheffield’s second goal of the night. The goal was awarded to Tremblay with assists going to Halifors and Sommer.

The second started off with another penalty to Hull for a face off violation, but even though Sheffield had some great procession and decent shots, Hull stood firm. It wasn’t long before Tremblay and Sommer combined again to increase Sheffield lead to 3-0.
Hull got themselves on the score sheet after Sheffield failed to clear their defensive zone. Giving them hope of making a game of it. More penalties were awarded to both teams before the end of the period. With Tremblay and Sobchek swapping cross checks.

The third started off in the usual vain with cross checks and a few odd punches being exchanged. Sheffield had another power play awarded after a slash from Hull’s Svec.  This time Kirk  Sheffield’s captain got himself on the score sheet with another assist going to Sam Tremblay.

Probably the tamest penalty of the night called for hooking on Ripley gave hull the chance to  get back into the game , but they failed to capitalise.
Ripley came out of the box and intercepted the puck to set Sommer on a breakaway, he put the puck over the right shoulder of Hull’s net minder into the roof of the net.
Hull finally pulled a scrambled goal to reduce the deficit to 5-2.
Sheffield needed to compose themselves with under 4 minutes to go which they duly did. It was Hull  that lost composure by taking further penalties. With less than 2 minutes to go Hull’s Chamberlain took a 2+2+10 for various infractions. The resulting power play saw Sheffield add to their tally with Morgan getting on the score sheet.

The game ended with a Sheffield win and a totally different performance from the previous night.
