SteelDogs were buoyed by Saturdays big win over Hull, as they headed down to Slough to face the Bees..
Still missing Adams, Barry and Shudra, the dogs also had Jack Brammer unavailable.
Ivan continued with the Steelers, whilst Ulrick looked to carry on his fine form from the previous 2 games.
Warburton got the nod in goal, with Norton as back up.
The dogs started the game on the front foot but went behind at 4.40 to a PPG with Smith on the naughty step.
Despite outshooting the home side, the dogs couldnt find a way past the bees nettie as the buzzer sounded.
The second period saw the home team take control of the game and it was no surprise that they added 2 more goals to take a 3 – 0 lead into the 2nd interval.
Perhaps , the long journey , absences and a 3 game weekend was going to prove too big an obstacle to overcome.
However, fine netminding from Warburton had kept the Bees within touching distance and somehow the Steeldogs found a way back into the game, when Ben Morgan fired in the 1st goal, helpers from Smith and Ulrick..
This gave the lads impetus and the home team were being penned back in their own zone.
A beautiful PPG from the leagues leading scorer Walker Sommer, saw him skate around the Bees defence , before cutting across the impressive Wright and burying the puck with fine aplomb..
Assists to Tremblay and Hallfors.
With just over 10 minutes left, all was to play for.
Both metminders kept the forwards at bay, but just as it looked as if the comeback wasn’t to be, the Bees took a holding penalty at 57.39.
With 45 seconds of the powerplay gone and with an offensive zone face off, Ben Morgan called a time-out and duly withdrew Warburton to give the dogs a 6 on 4 advantage.
18 seconds later, the scores were tied !!. Captain Kirk with an out of this world bullet from the blue line, assists goin to Trem- bu- lee and Sommer..
Overtime couldnt seperate the teams, and nor could the 1st set of penalty shots, again both netminders dominating.
Tremblay scored with the 1st sudden death shot and it was left to Man of the Match , Curtis Warburton to seal the win.
A gargantuan effort from the Steeldogs, a 4 point weekend and the heavily outnumbered away fans could head back up north with smiles on their faces..
There have been some who questioned the lack of spirit and passion in the team after fridays defeat to leeds..
Well this result undoubtedly answered that.
Special praise to all the lads, after a weekend when quite a few shouldn’t even have dressed.
A long week at work, a 3 game weekend, a long bus drive back, landing around 1am Monday morning, and back at it for work the same morning.
This commitment headed by Mr “its not about me” Morgan..A 2 goal weekend, a superhuman effort to marshall his troops, despite blowing out of his proverbial with 5 minutes of the 1st period left. Bent double on the bench, summoning every last drop of adrenalin to not let ‘his’ team down.
We salute you.
