SteelDogs run of poor form continues.
Sheffield travelled to Dumfries for their only game of the weekend. With Tim Smith returning to the line up and Ben Norton getting the nod in goal , Sheffield were trying to end their 3 game losing streak. Their last win was against tonight’s opponents Solway sharks so hope was in the air. Solway themselves are fighting desperately for the last group qualifying place for the Coventry weekend.
The first period was a blur for Sheffield with them being out played , out worked and out scored by 4 goals to nil. To add to Sheffield problems Tom Barry left the ice through injury and Steeldogs’ talisman Walker Sommer was getting little ice time.
The first 18 minutes of the second period saw no improvement from Sheffield, even with 3 failed power plays by the Steeldogs’. Solway continued to pushed forward and increased their lead to 5-0. It wasn’t until 38-35 the Steeldogs’ got on the scoreboard with a power play goal from Hallfor’s. Within less than a minute Sommer added a further power play goal to reduce the deficit to 5-2 by the end of the second period.
The Steeldogs’ started the third on positive mood which increased further when Hallfor’s grabbed his second of the night and the Steeldogs’ third. 8 seconds later Doxy scored the fourth for the Steeldogs’. A 5-0 deficit had been turned into a 5-4 deficit in less than 4 minutes. The forty plus Steeldogs’ fans that had made the long trip to Scotland were starting to feel more positive. Unfortunately the Dogs could not continue their comeback and it was Solway who scored another 3 unanswered goals to hand the Steeldogs’ their fourth consecutive defeat.
Next weekend see’s the final two games of the season before pushing on into the Coventry playoff groups, with everyone hoping for a turn around in the SteelDogs performance and results.
Next home games is on Sunday 23rd March, face off 4pm.
