The DSM Sheffield Steeldogs return to IceSheffield this Sunday as Solway IHC make the trip to South Yorkshire for another exciting NIHL clash.
After picking up their first league points of the season last Sunday with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Swindon Wildcats, the Steeldogs will be looking to build on that result in front of their home supporters.
Sunday’s visitors will be a familiar opponent, with the two sides having already met at IceSheffield during pre-season.
The Steeldogs came out on top that night with an impressive 6-1 victory, with Nathan Ripley, Jonathan Kirk, Walker Sommer x2, Michael Pelech and Dante Salituro all finding the back of the net.
However, Sunday’s game will be a completely different challenge, with league points up for grabs and Solway looking to take something away from Sheffield.
Last weekend saw Shane Owen put in another outstanding performance between the pipes against Swindon. The Steeldogs netminder faced 40 shots, conceding just once before keeping the Wildcats scoreless in the shootout, earning himself another well-deserved Man of the Match award for the second week running at home.
Nathan Salem opened the scoring on the powerplay before Sean Richards levelled the game for Swindon. With neither side able to find a winner in regulation or overtime, CJ Garcia stepped up to score the decisive shootout goal and secure two points for the Steeldogs.
The Steeldogs will now turn their attention to another important home fixture as they look to continue their positive start to the 2026/27 campaign.
