The Steeldogs went into this game after already playing two matches earlier in the week — Wednesday in Telford and Friday at home against Solway.
The Dogs came out of the traps early, making sure they set the tone for the game. At 9:48, Bair Gendunov pulled off an unreal skill move to give the Steeldogs a 1-0 lead. The game was in their favour, with them seeing more possession throughout the first stanza.
Heading into the second period, the game evened out. But the Steeldogs would get their second goal of the night, this time through CJ Garcia, who fired a nice wrist shot straight past Jordan Hedley. MK answered back at 37:40 with a goal from Sean Norris. The visitors built momentum from that and went on to tie the game at 44:21 through Ilia Korenchuk.
Neither team knew how the next 20 minutes would unfold, and the game couldn’t be decided in regulation. Into overtime we went. Both teams had good chances, but neither could find the back of the net, meaning the game would be settled by penalty shots.
Milton Keynes stepped up first with Dominik Gabaj, who gave MK the early shootout lead. Bair Gendunov was first for the Steeldogs and pulled off the same move he used earlier in the game to tie it at 1-1. Ilia Korenchuk was next for MK and scored past Oldale. Walker Sommer followed for the Steeldogs and calmly converted to tie things again. Jordan Cownie took MK’s third penalty, but Alex Oldale stood tall to deny him. That left the door open for the Steeldogs to seal the win. Up stepped Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom, who rifled the puck over Hedley to clinch the victory for the Dogs.
CJ Garcia was named Man of the Match for the Steeldogs. Another solid road game capped off a long week of hockey, earning a rare six-point week and the boys are buzzing!
