The TriggerHub Sheffield Steeldogs came away victorious in tonight’s Battle of the Dogs matchup!
Both teams were coming in hot in this fixture. Bristol already had their legs going after a 5-2 victory on Friday against the Milton Keynes Lightning. The Steeldogs knew Bristol would come to Sheffield with a lot of positives after beating a stacked Lightning side less than 24 hours ago. The first period was a stalemate with no goals from either side.
We were treated to goals from both the Steeldogs and Pitbulls in the second stanza. Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom scored the games opening goal at 30:16 with Jonathan Kirk & Liam Steele being the providers. A short while later Bristol got the game tied with a 5on3 powerplay goal from Jake Bricknell at 31:35. 40 seconds later the Steeldogs would regain the lead with Joonas Larinmaa breaking through 1-on-1 with Tommy Nappier squeezing the puck past making it 2-1 to the Dogs. Just over two minutes later Nathan Ripley gave the Dogs a 2-goal lead on the powerplay at 34:27 with Jonathan Phillips and Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom getting the assists. That wasn’t going to stop the Pitbulls as they hit back again, this time it was John Dunbar who found the back of Crowes net. After 40 minutes the Steeldogs led the Pitbulls 3-2.
A big third period was in store for both teams with 2 points on the line! Steeldogs went on to score their fourth of the night. Going bar down was Walker Sommer who sniped the puck straight past Nappier with Ivan Bjorkly-Nordstrom picking up his third point of the game. Once again the Pitbulls hit back this time it was Bobby Ragan who found himself celebrating after somehow getting the puck into the goal from an extremely tight angle. At 56:28 Jonathan Phillips regained the Steeldogs’ two goal advantage. Shortly after Bristol called a timeout and decided to pull Tommy Nappier for the extra skater which didn’t pay off. Bair Gendunov finished the game off with a long shot from his defensive zone making it 6-3 to the Steeldogs.
