THE DOGS TAKE IT TO OVERTIME IN A 15 GOAL THRILLER

As summer ends, the puck drops on a new season, with many new faces joining the squad including three new imports. 

To kick off the pre-season, Yorkshire Cup, the Dogs took on last seasons League Champions, the Leeds Knights. 

Curtis Warburton got the start in net, alongside defencemen Sam Cooper and Captain, Jonathan Kirk. Hallfors, Tremblay and Ulrick filled in the gaps up front.

The reigning champs go up by three in the first.

Leeds broke the deadlock first through Oli Endicott who fired the puck into the top corner past Warburton, assisted by Bradon and Gallacher.

It only took three minutes for them to double their lead, through the same line. Endicott’s initial shot was saved, however Gallacher put the rebound home.

While the Steeldogs were putting pucks on net, they could not find a way past Sam Gospel. 

Matt Haywood awarded the Knights their third goal as former Steeldog, Matt Bissonnette, fed it across to him to one time into the net.

Walker Sommer gets his first goal in orange and the first goal of the season.

It didn’t take long in the second period for the Dogs to find their feet, with American, Walker Sommer finding the back of the net assisted by Bjorkly-Nordstrom. 

Following a disallowed goal on the powerplay, the Knights regained their three goal lead back, Bradon dangling the puck past two players allowing Buesa to slapshot the puck into the back of the net. 

Walker Sommer kept his momentum going with the second goal of the night, halfing the Knights lead with just under a minute remaining in the period. 

Sommer scores his hattrick goal to keep fighting back. 

With Oli Endicott in the box, Sommer completes his hattrick with a tip in at the back door, assisted by Halfors and Bjorkly-Nordstrom. 

Gallacher responded quickly to the goal and got his second of the game to add to give the Knights their two goal lead back. 

Halfors got a debut goal reducing the defecit to one, assisted by Tremblay, another debutant. 

After killing a penalty by Tom Barry, Henry Adams completes the comeback with an unassisted goal, sending some life back into the fans at iceSheffield. 

Leeds Knights answered with two goals of their own making the score 5-7 withjust over three minutes remaining. Matthew Barlow got his first goal for the away team with a wrist shot past Warbuton. While Buesa got his second of the night following a scramble in front of the net. 

Tom Barry got his second of the night, starting the final comeback for the home team assisted by Bjorkly-Nordstrom.

Halfors got the puck off the faceoff and carried it around the Leeds defence to find the back of the net, completing the comeback, 7-7. 

It went to an end to end game in overtime.

Sam Gospel stood on his head as the Dogs had attempt after attempt, however it was Mac Howlett who awarded the Knights the overtime win.

The Dogs are back in action tomorrow night in Hull.
